Swimming
Swimming
lessons take place at Melbourn Village College Community Pool (McSplash).
Classes 1, 2 & 3 each have 10 sessions, during one term each school year.
It is our aim that by the end of Year 4 all children will have reached the
National Curriculum requirement to swim 25 metres. However, Year 5 children
who have not yet achieved this will attend lessons in the summer term. The
swimming ability of the children is re–assessed each year by asking parents
and by the instructor at the first session.
The children travel to and from the pool by coach. The school funds this
service but parents are asked to make a voluntary contribution towards the
cost. On every trip the children are accompanied by at least one teacher
who has responsibility for the safety and conduct of the session. Other
adult helpers to satisfy the required adult:child ratio also accompany the
children. A qualified swimming instructor runs each lesson.
Parents will receive a letter providing full details of the forthcoming
sessions at the start of term that their child is due to swim.
