We
admit children in accordance with the Local Education Authority policy,
priority being given to children living in Foxton. Further information
is available from the administration office or the Local Education Authority.
Children may start school in the Autumn term of the school year in which
they have their fifth birthday. Those whose birthday is between September
1st and December 31st are admitted full time. The remainder usually
attend mornings only until the October half term after which they may
attend full time if the class teacher and parents consider this appropriate.
Prospective parents and children are welcome to visit the school by
arrangement. We maintain close links with Foxton Pre–School that enables
these children to become familiar with the school. All new children
are invited to spend some time in school towards the end of the Summer
term. An evening meeting with short talks for parents is also arranged,
to introduce the staff and school nurse and tour the school.
Our local secondary school is Melbourn Village College. There is considerable
liaison to ensure a smooth transfer, including participating in activities
at the college and an induction day during the last term at Foxton.
If a child is to attend a different secondary school, they will usually
have separate induction arrangements.
At
Foxton School we are committed to meeting the needs of all children
in the school and to supporting them in our ‘whole–child’ approach.
Identified needs are discussed between school and parents. The teachers
provide a programme of structured support for that child. A ‘need’ may
be long or short term, physical, social, academic or emotional. All
children are catered for, including the very able ones.
The School is supported by additional help from these outside agencies
if required: Brookside Child and Family Consultation Clinic, Behaviour
Support Service, Child Protection Service, Hearing Support Service,
Visual Impairment Service, Primary Support Service, Educational Psychology
Service, Child Development Centre and Speech and Language Service.
Funding for General Assistants and Learning Support Assistants is provided
partly by the Local Education Authority and partly from the school budget. We
aim to provide as much class support as we are able. All children benefit
from this and it means that those children with special needs are able
to remain within the regular class environment as much as possible. We
are proud of the achievement of all the children in the school.
